Xero MCP server
Xero's open-source MCP server for reading and writing a Xero organisation (invoices, contacts, payments, bank transactions, manual journals, reports and UK/NZ payroll timesheets).

Server command (pinned)
npx -y @xeroapi/xero-mcp-server@0.0.16Goes in your MCP client config with XERO_CLIENT_ID and XERO_CLIENT_SECRET from a Xero Custom Connection, or with XERO_CLIENT_BEARER_TOKEN. Xero's README uses @latest; pin the version instead.
The self-hosted MCP server Xero maintains. It exposes about 50 tools, including read tools (accounts, contacts, invoices, quotes, payments, bank transactions, P&L, balance sheet, trial balance, aged receivables and payables, payroll leave and timesheets) and write tools (create-invoice, create-payment, create-bank-transaction, create-manual-journal, update-invoice for drafts, and approve-payroll-timesheet and revert-payroll-timesheet).
When to use it
- Pulling a trial balance, aged receivables or a P&L into an agent session for close or variance work.
- Drafting invoices, quotes or credit notes from a conversation or a document.
- Building your own bookkeeping automation that needs write access.
Before you install
If you only want answers about your books, use Xero’s Claude connector (add it from the
Claude connectors directory). Xero describes it as read-only and session-only: it “can’t edit
invoices, post transactions, or change anything in your books.” This server is the developer
tool with write access. Start with Xero’s Demo Company. On the Custom Connection, set only the
scopes you need (the XERO_SCOPES variable overrides the defaults). Keep write tools behind
your client’s per-call approval. Payroll tools only work for UK and NZ organisations.
