Install

MCP only (Claude Code)

Then run /mcp to sign in with OAuth and choose which accounts or sandboxes to grant.

Plugin (MCP plus skills and hooks)

The plugin adds session hooks that run the Stripe CLI (see below). Use the MCP-only line if you don't want that.

Stripe hosts an MCP server at https://mcp.stripe.com. Its tools include stripe_api_read (any GET), stripe_api_write (POST/PATCH/PUT/DELETE on a supported list of API methods), stripe_analytics (preview; SQL generation needs Sigma), a balance summary, docs search and an implementation planner. The write list includes creating customers, invoices, invoice items, subscriptions, coupons, prices, payment links and refunds, voiding and finalizing invoices, cancelling subscriptions and updating tax settings. The stripe plugin (v0.10.7) configures the server and adds skills (best practices, Connect, Stripe Apps, API upgrades, Metronome billing, stripe-pay) plus two commands.

When to use it

Answering “which customers churned last month?” or “what’s our MRR?” from live Stripe data.
Creating and sending an invoice, issuing a refund or setting up a payment link without opening the Dashboard.
Building or upgrading a Stripe integration with Stripe’s own guidance loaded.

Before you install

With this connected, an agent can move money. Stripe requires you to approve some writes, including refunds and outbound payments, through a URL it gives you. Other writes, like creating invoices or cancelling subscriptions, rely on your client’s tool-confirmation prompts, so keep those on. When the OAuth consent page appears, grant a sandbox first and set live-mode permissions separately. For unattended agents, Stripe says to use an Agent-tagged API key with only the permissions the agent needs. From October 31, 2026 the server rejects full-access secret keys and non-agent restricted keys. You can revoke sessions under OAuth sessions in your Stripe user settings, and admins can turn MCP access off for the whole team.
