SEC EDGAR MCP
Look up US public-company filings, XBRL financial statements and insider (Form 3/4/5) trades from SEC EDGAR, with a filing URL on every answer.
Install
-
pip (pinned)
pip install sec-edgar-mcp==1.1.0Installs a `sec-edgar-mcp` command. Set SEC_EDGAR_USER_AGENT to "Your Name (you@example.com)" in the server's environment — the SEC requires a contact in the User-Agent.
-
Docker
docker run -i --rm -e SEC_EDGAR_USER_AGENT="Your Name (you@example.com)" stefanoamorelli/sec-edgar-mcp:latestThe README uses the :latest tag; pin a version tag if you want reproducible installs.
An MCP server over the SEC’s public EDGAR system. It resolves tickers to CIKs, pulls 10-K, 10-Q
and 8-K filings and sections, returns balance sheet, income statement and cash-flow figures parsed
from XBRL, and lists insider transactions. It is built on the same author’s sec-edgar-toolkit.
When to use it
- You want primary-source numbers for a US-listed company instead of what a model remembers.
- You’re checking a figure in a model or memo against the filing it came from.
- You want to scan recent 8-Ks or insider buying and selling for a list of tickers.
Before you install
No API key is needed; EDGAR is free, but the SEC throttles heavy use and blocks requests without a contact User-Agent. Not affiliated with the SEC. AGPL-3.0 matters if you modify it and run it as a service for others.
Limits
XBRL tags vary between companies and years, and models can still misread or miscompute figures they’re handed. Check key numbers against the filing link each answer includes. Not investment advice.
