Playwright MCP

Lets an agent drive a real browser with Playwright, working from the page's accessibility tree instead of screenshots.

Install

  1. Claude Code

claude mcp add playwright npx @playwright/mcp@latest

This is the vendor's command. To pin, swap @latest for a fixed version (0.0.82 when reviewed).

Microsoft’s MCP server for Playwright. The agent reads the page as a structured accessibility snapshot and clicks, types, navigates, fills forms and checks values. It doesn’t need a vision model.

When to use it

  • Exploratory testing, or reproducing a UI bug by walking through the flow.
  • Generating or fixing Playwright tests while the agent can see the live page.
  • A quick accessibility sanity check. If an element is missing from the snapshot, assistive tech probably can’t reach it either.

Before you install

  • Microsoft now points coding agents to Playwright CLI + skills as the lighter option. Use MCP when you need a long-lived browser session.
  • The default profile persists to disk. Add --isolated for a clean in-memory profile each session. The README says --allowed-origins and --secrets are conveniences, not a security boundary.
