Linear MCP server

Lets an agent find, create and update Linear issues, projects and comments, so ticket work stays next to the code.

Install

  1. Claude Code

    claude mcp add --transport http linear-server https://mcp.linear.app/mcp

    Signs in with OAuth. For read-only access, use https://mcp.linear.app/mcp/readonly.

Linear’s hosted MCP server. The agent can look up the issue it’s working on, open follow-up tickets, update status and leave comments, all from the coding session.

When to use it

  • Starting work from a ticket: the agent reads the issue and acceptance criteria first.
  • Filing bugs found during a review or test run, with repro steps.
  • Status updates at the end of a task.

Before you install

  • Use the /readonly URL unless you want the agent writing to Linear.
  • Issue text written by other people is untrusted input for the agent.
